Frozen... Classic!

Enzo can’t get enough of this very nice movie Frozen, a story about sisters wherein the elder one has magical powers. This movie is from Disney (another film to add to the best collection of animated classics) which was based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Snow Queen, and featuring the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad, and Santino Fontana, the film tells the story of a fearless princess (Anna) who sets off on an epic journey alongside a rugged, thrill-seeking mountain man (Kristoff), his loyal pet reindeer (Sven), and a hapless snowman (Olaf) to find her estranged sister (Elsa), whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom in eternal winter.

If you have missed out in watching it, well you still got the chance by grabbing a DVD copy of this very nice movie…

Who would forget the famous Olaf’s lines…

“Love is...putting someone else’s needs before yours, like, you know, how Kristoff brought you back here to Hans and left you forever.”

An act of true love will thaw a frozen heart.”

Who would have thought that an iceman has this sense… and the greatest lesson from the story?

You don’t have to have a prince to get an act of True Love… awwwww….

Hope you enjoyed the movie as my 2 kiddos did… =)

Thank you Walt Disney for another timeless story... =)

Do you wanna build a snowman? =D

Measles Outbreak!

Please be aware of the symptoms of measles and visit your doctor at the earliest possible time if you are unwell.  Measles spread very easily and can be caught by breathing in droplets from an infected person when they cough or sneeze.  Always practice good hygiene and take note of following precautionary measures:

§  Isolation.
Measles is highly contagious from about four (4) days before to four (4) days after the rashes develop.  Those infected are strongly advised not to return immediately to activities involving interaction with people during this period.
§  Vaccinate.
The measles, mumps and rubella vaccine (MMR) is the best way to protect against measles.
§  Wash your hands.
Clean your hands frequently with soap and hot water or use an alcohol-based hand rub with at least 60 percent alcohol.
§  Wear a surgical mask.
When in the same room with a person infected with measles, cover your mouth and nose with a surgical mask.
§  Disinfect surfaces.
Use a household disinfectant to clean any surface that may have been contaminated with sweat, saliva, mucus, vomit, stool or urine.  Wear disposable gloves while cleaning and dispose of the gloves when done.

FAQs:

What is measles?
Measles is a "highly infectious" viral illness caused by infection with the rubella virus. It can lead to serious complications and can even be fatal.

How can people be infected?
The virus spreads when infected people cough and sneeze - it is contained in the tiny droplets. People become infected by breathing in the droplets or by touching surfaces that have been contaminated with such droplets and then touching their noses or mouths.

Who are most likely to be infected?
Measles is mostly common among children between the ages of 1-4; however, anyone who has not had it before or has not been vaccinated can also be infected.

What are the symptoms?
§  Cold-like symptoms
§  Sensitivity to light
§  Red eyes
§  Fever
§  Grayish white spots in the mouth and throat
§  After a few days a red-brown spotty rash will appear - the rash usually starts behind the ears, spreads round the neck and head then to the rest of the body.

What are the complications?
Common complications of the infection are diarrhea, vomiting, eye infections and laryngitis. It can also lead to complications including meningitis and pneumonia. Some people can die from the illness.

What is the treatment?
There is no specific treatment for the infection and the body's immune system should fight off the illness in a couple of weeks. But in severe cases hospital treatment may be needed.

How can it be prevented?
The most effective way of preventing measles is the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine.

Measles is a 'notifiable disease' - what does that mean?
“Any doctor that spots a notifiable disease must record and inform the local health authority” - This means local health officials can track the infection and can try to stop it from spreading.

Feng Shui Tips

I have a new neighbor who is a big fan of Feng Shui. I didn’t really have the chances to get to know them until last weekend. She works as an accountant at Alabang Town Center and is working for a Chinese boss. She has shared with me some Feng Shui tips that she had learned from her boss that I would also like to share with all of you. This is to keep the energy and positive things going.

First tip she gave me was for the front of the house. It was said that when a house has good energy circulating throughout, the people who live in the house experience higher levels of well-being. So she told me to place a Pineapple ornament hanging in the doorstep like mistletoe during Christmas.

We have one of this hanging on the doorstep...

So now for the next tip, I was advised that on the 30th of January, I have to prepare a pineapple and put gold coins around it. Also to add to this, I will have to put an old traditional food during the Chinese New Year, Tikoy. You will find more information on this food by clicking on the link. If you live in an area where you would see dragon dance, it is also advised that you feed angpao to the Dragon for goodluck!

And these are the Chocolate Gold coins that you can put around your Pineapple

I am pretty sure your kids know where to find these goodies! LOL!

Now for the house structure, I was given a small amount of advice since our house is almost done and we can only make small modifications as of this time. They say that Chi (energy) is like flowing water, so if the front door is aligned with the back door, chances are, the Chi that comes in will easily escape through the back door without having a chance to circulate and nourish your home.. So what to do? Put something to block the Chi, or at least something to slow the energy down. Compared again to water, what will make the water flow more slowly? Perhaps a table with flowers… this way, the energy that goes in the house will be redirected or will atleast slow down. This will change the relationship between the 2 aligned doors. You can also reposition the furniture to distribute the energy. We can also try out what will work best for us…

Whatever it is that we believe in, everything will still depend on the harmony of the people living in the house. I believe that love, prayer and faith coupled with bits and pieces of Feng Shui will not hurt. Haven't discussed this with Jon yet but I'm pretty sure he would want to try it, for a change, trying wont hurt, what do you have to lose in trying?

Well anyways, however you would like to spend your Chinese New Year, as long as it is spent with the family, it should be a bang!

Advance Happy Chinese New Year to All! =D
