Million People March against Pork Barrel

I recently received an invitation from a fellow blogger to join their group in support of the campaign to abolish Pork Barrel in the Philippine System in a walk going to Luneta Park in Manila.

What is Pork Barrel?
The term pork barrel politics usually refers to expenditure which is intended to benefit constituents of a politician in return for their political support. Typically, "pork" involves funding for government programs whose economic or service benefits are concentrated in a particular area but whose costs are spread among all taxpayers.

What triggered the Movement Million People March?
Having the taxpayers shoulder most, if not all, government projects is what triggered this movement which is going on today. This is a campaign to eliminate this type of system in releasing funds for specific allocation/project. Due to the recently exposed “Pork Barrel Scam” wherein some government officials are allegedly involved in redirecting the funds for their own use, people are now taking their stand in fighting for what is right, to abolish this type of system that only benefit a few against millions of those who are starving.

Unfortunately, I will not be able to join this movement because Enzo is still sick so in my own way I would like to express the disappointment all of us share which started from the time when the scam was exposed. Tax has been a part of my deductions and I am ever so willing to pay my taxes ‘cause this has been a way of life, only this time, it’s different. Taxes’ going to selected “privileged” people hurts to the very core and definitely SOMETHING has to be done. We, as the paying people, have to take our stand to ensure that we have our eyes on this issue to make sure that justice will be served. It is time for change, a time to open our eyes to such rubbish. I am hoping that this day will mark a change in the history of my country for the benefit of those who are suffering from poverty. A lot of people need food, shelter and clothing, 3 basic needs of a human being. I am praying that this will mark a history in this country and also that this is only the beginning a new tomorrow. I believe that we can achieve success, with everyone holding hands to fight for what is right and for what will benefit more rather than just a few…

Prayer For The Philippines

I received a text message from my Mom early this morning. It was a prayer for the people and the country and for what seems to be an endless rainfall for several days now. I would like to share with you guys the prayer…

Dear God,

Please let this continuous rain come to an end… Save us from further calamities by embracing our country with Your protective grace and merciful blessing. Keep us warm in Your everlasting love…

Amen…

I hope you guys are okay… As for me and my family, our place is pretty high because we live in the elevated part of the city, that it will take a whole lot of rain nonstop to get my place flooded. Those who live in Laguna (like Mom), Marikina and places in Manila are those which, unfortunately, were hit the most. The flood that accumulated in my place was roughly almost 3 feet high. I still managed to get to the office though, as well as Jon. I have encountered some flooded areas on my way to work and as for the rain? Well, its still pouring like it will never stop. Got a bit stranded and it took me about 3 hours to get to the office.

As what many used to say… “and this too shall pass…”

I hope and pray that all will be safe… My prayer goes to everyone affected by Monsoon Maring… =(

Typhoon Maring Photos

Early this morning I received a call from my big brother Noel and he asked me and Jon to go to Mom's house, reason? overflowing water inside the house from excessive flooding brought about by tropical storm Maring. It took us about 2 hours to get to Mom's house from the usual 20 minute drive because of terrible water flooding the streets of Muntinlupa up to San Pedro in Laguna and we had to take the motorcycle because we don't want to get the car submerged into the river of water in the street.

Below are shots that I took using  my phone's camera...

We had to stop at a gas station because it was raining hard and the water is too high so I wanted to make sure that this will not damage the motorcycle.

Being a mechanic by heart, Jon turned the valves of the motor to the closed position and headed straight into the river of water. That's daddy Jon and me at the back taking pictures...

I wonder where the rest of the bridge is.... hmmm.

Didn't get the chance to take more pictures in Mom's house because my phone's battery died down and they have no electricity at the time when we got to her house. Luckily, the water has already subsided and it was easier for us to get the water out of the house. She lives approximately 500 meters from Laguna lake so flood has been a part of her life ever since...

I guess nature is already taking revenge from the unnecessary cutting of trees and such so we will have to learn to live with this kind of situation.

Take care everyone!

Thor 2: The Dark World

We have just finished watching Thor The Movie and it was worth all the time spent watching and talking about being late during my latest post about my summer escapade at 9 Waves, San Mateo, Rizal, I just learned  that there is already a sequel following the first episode of Thor! LOL! Kenn was actually laughing at me while I was watching the full trailer of the movie. So it turns out that Loki is still alive after he fell down somewhere below. Just something to look forward to, it looks like Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) was able to pay their realm a visit.

This next episode of Thor as it shows above will be available by November 8, 2013. Surely a must see movie for this year. Good thing they did not wait for Christmas for this sequel.

Same characters below... Of course I only have eyes for Chris... =D

Big Kudos for 7-11 Muntinlupa!!!

I was amazed this morning when I stopped by 7-11 to get something when the cashier caught my attention. There was a group of teens at the counter trying to purchase a box of cigarette whom I think are too young to smoke, but as we all know, it is very easy for the younger ones to buy cigarettes especially in the streets. Now going back to the cashier, as the teen was asking for a box of cigarette, the cashier immediately asked for their ages and was told that they are already 18, so next question was “let me have an ID please” and they all started to ask their friends if they have an ID. LOL much as their friends started to get out of the store one by one.

I was so proud as I stare at the cashier and wished that if people in this country have the same conviction as with the lady at the cashier station, then we will no longer get the impression that we are living at the “gates of hell”.

Let us protect all the younger generations as they are the hope of this country. If no one will teach them the right way of doing things, then who will?

Hooray for 7-11!!!
